You either love it or hate it, but BEAMS took on Nike’s hybrid PRESTO REACT silhouette and injected their signature gusto - sitting heads-and-shoulders above competitors in terms of innovation and progressive aesthetic presence. This is quite literally a sneaker of two halves - its evenly split uppers and a combination of two separate models allows the malleable ‘00s Presto upper to sit upon modern REACT comfort and technology in seamless fashion.
BEAMS first opened to the public back in 1976, situated inside the building that later became their HARAJUKU outpost. In fact, to this day they remain privately owned with a HQ invested within TOKYO’s fashion world and donning around 150 stores spread across global locations.
In turn, this collaboration takes inspiration from brightly coloured Daruma Dolls; a detail of common practice within Buddhism whilst being generally accepted as a talisman of good luck. Bearded man aside, BEAMS integrated a multitude of colours in order to reap a lucky wearer’s fortune - green as good health’s representative, orange in hope for positive educational grades and white celebrating purity; there’s a LOT to observe.
At the time, this launched with two t-shirts and a pair of shorts in tow - a real RUNNING capsule!
