There’s ALWAYS something special about CHARITY sneakers, in fact, when a personal cause is attached to our products of leather, mesh and vulcanised rubbers we tend to hold on with a little extra gusto.
Boston giants NEW BALANCE have been working hand-in-hand with Susan G. Komen since 1989, committing an occasional silhouette to the Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation that fights the disease on ALL fronts. This pair was coined ‘Lace Up for the Cure’.
Today’s model of choice is a plush, pink suede 993 that packed MORE than your standard punch - we’re gifted with RIBBON detailing on both heels and the sneaker’s iconic tongue window. But of course you can observe this from photos - can’t you?
Instead of pursuing a VISUAL analysis route, we give to you a token regarding Komen’s inspirational birth from the depths of heart-break; somewhat of a BEAUTIFUL back-story.
Follow us back to 1980 when Komen founder, Nancy G. Brinker, promised her dying sister to pursue every avenue in bringing Breast Cancer to an END. Starting out with a single shoe box full of pending donor IDs and a mere $200 to play with, Nancy’s vision BLOOMED into what would become the planet’s LARGEST (non-profit) combatant of Breast Cancer - surmounting investments over $3billion in research and health outlets spanning 60+ countries. It’s been an incredible four decades, going from 1982’s founding strength to strengths earmarking a 38% REDUCTION in related deaths at the peak of 2014.
With every sale, 5% was DONATED to the charity in question - making for an IMPRESSIVE donation sum every time this now infamous duo come together.
